Every Tuesday I highlight a useful tool in my kitchen. A useful tool to me is, efficient, easy to use, and easy to clean-up!!
Today the simple but effective tool, the juice reamer, takes the spotlight.
Now you will find plenty of these out on the market, everything from stainless steel to ergonomic handles will try and entice you. These often come with a hefty price tags too, upwards of $30. WAIT, don't fall prey to these clever marketing tags.
Instead the simple hand held wooden reamer should be in your drawer.
It is lightweight so those who have weak wrists or trouble holding heavy objects should find it easy to use.
It cleans up in a pinch, just rinse with water and let air dry.
If you have a small kitchen with little cupboard space the wooden reamer just fits nicely in your drawer or in a nice jar along your windowsill with other small tools.
Best of all, you will get the most amount of juice leaving you with a dry shell. The wood acts as an abrasive therefore is able to clean the sides much better than the stainless steel variety.
Okay maybe the best thing is the price. I picked mine up for $2.99 about 7 years ago. You can still find them for $2.99!!! Amazing isn't it in today's day and age of price gouging.
Right, well I'm off to make some salad dressing, I think.......
