Valentine's Day

Ohhhh, an exciting time in the baking kitchen, Valentine's. Forget the commercial aspect of Valentine's Day, yummy goods baked by you for all your sweethearts, now that represents love to me.

This year cookies and more cookies kept coming out of me! I've always looked at pictures of french macaroons and I came across them the other night on DAVID LEBOVITZ fantastic site about life in France. So it was time to finally make this oh so french classic. His chocolate macaroons came out perfect, mind you my first batch I could have had more rise but the 'foot' was there. I decided to sandwich them with dulce de leche and oh do they ever look yummy!

Next cookie up, shortbread of course. I love making shortbread cookies because there are endless ways to decorate them and of course endless cookie cutters!!! I kept thing simple (to busy with other events at work) and made raspberry jam sandwich hearts.
All week I had the smaller cutout heart from the sandwiches and couldn't figure out what to do with them until today.....Blushing Hearts!!! I just dusted the cookie with red powdered colouring and the blushing heart was born. I love the name too!
Pre-baked Cherry Pies

Of course I had to set out chocolate cupcakes simply decorated with pink and white buttercream icing and yummy chocolate dipped strawberries. Lastly to add some more red, mini cherry tarts topped with a small heart filled my Valentine's list.
